How to Run The Mentorship Process

  1. Create a shared Notion doc for keeping notes between meetings, sharing links to documentation, Github links, etc.
  2. Set up a kickoff meeting as a recurring calendar invite make sure there’s a link to your shared doc in the description of the meeting. We recommend having the calendar invite end after 3-6 months so you can re-evaluate if you want to continue the mentorship relationship formally
  3. Tips for the initial kickoff meeting (feel free to use the list below as a template in your shared doc).
    1. Background - It’s nice to share you backgrounds to understand the experience of both people in the meeting
    2. What are your goals? - For both the mentor and the mentee what are you hoping to get out of this relationship?
    3. Topics - What topics would you like to cover? Technical skills, processes at Invisible, mentee’s growth path, etc.
    4. Cadence - We recommend setting up at least bi-weekly 1:1s with a recurring event, but discuss any changes in meeting frequency or style
    5. Communication Between catch-ups - Is the mentor open to being pinged on slack? Set expectations for communication between meetings here
    6. Short-term wins - What are the areas you’d like to grow in the next month? Start by focusing on that and establish opportunities for clear wins.
    7. Longer Term Challenges - What are the longer term challenges the mentee hopes to overcome? What’s their long term goal?
